During meditation we are often feeling sensations in our muscles, experiencing sensations having to do with breathing, hearing internal conversations, and seeing inner pictures. We are sometimes visualizing energy flows or yantras, hearing a mantra, thinking a focus thought, or experiencing emotions. In other words, we are feeling, hearing and seeing. All this is happening in the present tense, by the way. Some people think that if you are feeling a sensation then you are In The Present Moment, but if you are feeling an emotion or thinking a thought then You Are Not In The Present Moment.
When I began studying asana in 1968, one of the first techniques they taught us was to massage your whole body, starting with the feet, and move toward the heart. Move all the way up the legs, to the pelvis, the belly, toward the heart, and massage around the heart. Then use one hand and massage the other hand, always moving toward the heart. Massage the head, moving toward the heart. You're supposed to do this every time you practice yoga asana.
